Suburban Chicago deputies shoot, kill man who fired at them
PORT BARRINGTON, Ill. (AP) - Suburban Chicago sheriff's deputies fatally shot a man early Tuesday after he fired at the deputies as they were responding to a domestic violence call, police said.
McHenry County sheriff's deputies had just arrived at a residence in Port Barrington on a domestic violence call about 1:20 a.m., when the man opened fire on them and a woman.
The deputies returned fire, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene in the northwest Chicago suburb, police said.
The woman suffered injuries that were not life threatening, although authorities didn't say whether she was shot, the Chicago Tribune reported. She was taken to a hospital in Libertyville.
No deputies were shot or injured, police said.
The man's name and age had not been released by late Tuesday morning.
