Dundee-Crown blows out Jacobs

Offensive rebounding, balanced scoring, unselfishness, smothering defense.

You get the picture.

Dundee-Crown dominated in every facet of the game in cruising past District 300 rival Jacobs 56-26 in Fox Valley Conference action in Carpentersville Friday night.

"We played solid defense all night," said Dundee-Crown coach Lance Huber. "We really hit the glass and played very unselfishly, It was a very good win. It is something we can build on for next week."

Off the offensive glass, the Chargers (10-4, 5-2) outrebounded Jacobs (3-13, 1-5) 15-1.

Hunter Guyon and Kennon Cook each grabbed 5 boards offensively for the winners.

Jason Huber led a balanced scoring attack for the Chargers with 10 points, including three 3-pointers and 4 assists.

"The atmosphere and the crowd were great," said Jason Huber, son of Lance. "We play hard and we play for each other. I have great teammates. We don't care who scores the ball. We just want the 'W.' We are tight off and on the court."

Guyon added 9 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists while Gabe Rivera and Zach Ryza scored 8 each. Cook scored 6 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists while Ryan Schultz scored 6.

Out of 19 baskets, the Chargers dished out 11 assists led by Huber.

Jacobs managed to make only 9-of-30 shots from the field for 30 percent. The Golden Eagles connected on only 3 of-12 shots from beyond the arc.

Leading 20-10 with 4:28 left in the first half, the Chargers tallied the final 14 points of the second quarter to lead 34-10 after 16 minutes. During that pivotal stretch, D-C made 6-of-10 from the field with 5 assists, 2 by Huber. From 3-point land, D-C made both its 3-pointers, by Huber and Schultz. Ryza scored 2 baskets.

The Chargers' biggest lead was 49-16 after a 3-pointer by Nathan Benton with 5:44 left in the game.

Nick McCoy led Jacobs with 7 points.

Jacobs girls 33, Dundee-Crown 16:

Fourth-year coach Jon Reibel along with 3-year starter MacKenzie Leahy were finally able to enjoy a victory over District 300 rival Dundee-Crown.

Holding D-C to 5 field goals for the game, Jacobs (10-8, 4-2) posted a comfortable double-digit win.

"It feels good for the girls," said Reibel. "We have a lot of good firsts this season. We mixed up our defenses. We played some man-to-man, match up and zone."

Leahy, connecting on 15-of-19 from the free-throw line, paced the Eagles with 19 points.

"My shot was off so I had to get shots closer to the rim. This was a nice win. It has been more fun winning. The last 2 years there were a lot of ups and downs. It was like a roller coaster."

Markasia Harthorne led the Chargers with 5 points. D-C was plagued by 25 turnovers.

"We are playing hard," said D-C coach Sarah Teipel. "We need to play smarter and more efficient for 4 quarters. We need to capitalize better on our opportunities. We had too many unforced turnovers."
