Oak Brook's First Folio to require proof of booster vaccine for upcoming performances
First Folio Theatre has updated its COVID-19 vaccination and masking policy to require theatergoers show proof of the booster vaccine for admission to the Oak Brook theater's upcoming productions.
The theater announced its expanded protocols in an email Tuesday. According to the email, First Folio is a fully vaccinated workplace. All employees will be masked, except for the actors while they are performing.
Without exception, theater patrons must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, including the booster, for all performances. Masks are required for all patrons and visitors, according to the email.
Previews for First Folio's premiere of "The Secret Council," inspired by Agatha Christie's married sleuths Tommy and Twopence, begin Jan. 26, at the Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 31st Place, Oak Brook. See firstfolio.org.
Hours after First Folio's announcement, Chicago's City Lit Theater followed suit, announcing that beginning Feb. 1 it will require audience members show proof of full vaccination plus a booster for admission. Previews begin Friday, Jan. 7, for City Lit's "The Virginian: A Horseman of the Plains" at 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Chicago. See citylit.org.
Responding to a question about possible expansion of COVID-19 protocols among other Chicago area theaters, The League of Chicago Theatres indicated that at this time, members do not intend to expand the protocols established last August that require audience members show proof of vaccination.
"Patrons should check with individual theatres before purchasing a ticket to determine what the protocols are for that particular theater. Some theatres may have more restrictive protocols in place," wrote Executive Director Deb Clapp via email.
