Still holding out hope

For lovers of horse racing and horses in general, it is almost inconceivable that we will not be walking through the gates of Arlington International Racecourse next spring.

Arlington Park is a gem. It is one of the most beautiful, family-friendly, and classy sports venues not only in the Chicago area, but in the country. It is loved by fans along with the horsemen, trainers and owners who rate it as one of the best places to race in the U.S. Besides being immaculately maintained, the people who work at Arlington are some of the most friendly and helpful people you will ever meet. Over the years, we have always been treated like family.

There is no other sports venue out there that is more affordable and accommodating to families. It always makes me smile to see young children who attend and are fascinated being close up with the magnificent horses for the first time. Those type of experiences and memories cannot be replaced. There are so many who never come to Arlington to place a bet, but just to spend a relaxing afternoon at a beautiful track watching the majestic thoroughbreds.

I'm sure that I am one of many who holds out hope that we will once again be able to enjoy Arlington again in the not too distant future. Hopefully common sense, integrity and a love for this historic and vital institution will prevail over the deceit and greed of those who forced it's closure.

Until all hope is lost, I await the next "riders up"
