Letter: Why are people so opposed to COVID-19 vaccines?

Thank you for the follow-up story on Alix Atwell, the nurse with the long-haul COVID-19 from 18 months ago.

No tests or doctors' assessments can find the cause of her weakness, fatigue, muscle pain, and general malaise. Less than two years ago she was, as she says, described as fun, energetic, and as she quips, even "youthful."

Previously a full-time nurse, she now struggles to work part time and to do just essential shopping. Even her Christmas tree was undecorated, sitting there in one corner of the room, while she waits for energy to do "the Christmas thing."

My question for anyone today is why do folks not want to get the vaccine?

I've heard a few reasons. One: "The Constitution says I don't have to get it." Hmmm.

More reasonable excuses include the: "You know they are putting computer chips in the vaccine injections so they can track you!" Of course, we can all be tracked from our cellphones, but honestly do you really think anyone wants to do that?

My ultimate question for the anti-vaxxers is, "Are you willing to kill me or your aunt, or your father?" I hope they are just not aware that this is a two-way street any way you look at it.

You can do your own thing, anytime as far as I am concerned, as long as it doesn't affect me or others I care about. This always affects others. No choice here.

If you are all about 'my rights' do you want this on your conscience for the rest of your life that you might have or did kill someone through neglect of doing your part?

One more thing, as I like to say: Let's all be upfront with others, just say "You need a mask, vaccine so you won't seriously hurt or kill someone else."

We need to adopt the See-something-say-something rule. Don't get violent or fight. Just say what needs to be said. You might be saving someone else's life. Tolerance does not work here.
