Lake County queens host 'Hoodies from the Heart'
On Nov. 14, Junior Miss Lake County Morgan Ghys, with the help of her sister queens - Miss Lake County Mia Johnson and Little Miss Lake County Lyla Hosford - hosted a "Hoodies from the Heart" clothing drive at Gurnee Mills Mall to benefit Caring for Kids Clothing.
The event was sponsored by Gurnee Mills and 102.3XLC, with a live broadcast from DJ Leah Andersen promoting the event to the public.
The Lake County Illinois State Queens started collecting hoodies in October from friends, family and community members. The queens also arranged for collection boxes at Warren Township High School campuses in Gurnee and St. Patrick's School in Wadsworth, which resulted in many additional donations from staff and students.
Local town queens from Grayslake, Gurnee, Lindenhurst, Mundelein, Round Lake Area, Vernon Hills and Winthrop Harbor jumped in to collect additional hoodies to help make a bigger impact.
The grand total was 652 hoodies collected to help Lake County kids stay warm this winter. Caring for Kids Clothing will distribute the hoodies to local children and their siblings later this month.
Earlier this year, Morgan Ghys hosted a "Queens Collecting Jeans Drive" for Caring for Kids Clothing as well, which resulted in 261 pairs of jeans collected.
A special thanks to Gurnee Mills and 102.3XLC for helping make the hoodie collection event such a huge success.
