Bulls re-sign McKinnie; Jones sidelined for at least two games
The Bulls on Monday signed Alfonzo McKinnie to a second 10-day contract. The Chicago native has averaged 23 minutes in his first two games.
Derrick Jones Jr. missed Monday's contest with a left hamstring strain, which happened in the Lakers game. Coach Billy Donovan said he thought the injury was more mild than severe and Jones will be reevaluated at the end of the week.
With Stacey King and Bill Wennington in protocols, former Purdue star Robbie Hummel made his NBA debut, working with Chuck Swirsky on the Bulls radio broadcasts Sunday and Monday.
Rockets stay full strength:
While many NBA teams, especially the Bulls, have been swamped by positive COVID tests recently, the Houston Rockets haven't lost any players to health and safety protocols.
The one encounter the Rockets had: Former Bulls guard D.J. Augustin had to enter protocols because his daughter caught the disease, but he was able to produce two negative tests and return within a couple days.
The Rockets were one of the first teams to be fully vaccinated before the season, so they were then able to become fully boosted before the current rash of protocols. Did that make a difference? Testing is expected to increase after the holidays, so we'll see what happens.
"Everybody's done," Rockets coach Stephen Silas said recently in the Houston Chronicle. "It's good. There's all these cases; we're definitely conscious of what's going on around the league, for sure."
