Speaking up for choice on abortion

Is the Daily Herald editorial board anti-choice? Or are you just not receiving letters to the editor that support a woman's right to choose? If the latter is the case, this is a letter to counter your "alternative to abortion" letters.

In "Let's fix another 'hopeless' cause" on Nov. 27, Nancy Daly wrote about Feminists for Life, an organization allegedly eliminating the causes that "drive women to abortion," like lack of resources and support, because "women deserve better than abortion." The organization's website reveals that fetuses deserve better than abortion. There is no indication it is interested in improving a woman's resources or support.

In "Abortion alternatives" on Dec. 11, Mary Ann Cronauer wrote, "Pregnancy resource centers offer lifesaving help and hope to pregnant women." She means lifesaving help for fetuses and hope to pregnant women who want to remain pregnant.

Pregnant women have the choice to remain pregnant and the majority of pregnant women want to have a baby. A person who does not want to have a baby has the choice and the right to terminate her pregnancy. It is absolutely nobody else's business why she wants to terminate her pregnancy.

Thank goodness the state of Illinois supports choice.
