St. Charles firefighters extinguish blaze at business next door

St. Charles firefighters didn't have to go far to help extinguish a blaze at a manufacturing plant earlier today.

Firefighters were called to the business on the 300 block of South Kirk Road just before 3:15 a.m. for a report of smoke inside the facility.

Luckily, that business is next door to the St. Charles Fire Department's Station No. 2.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke inside the building with visible fire from a "ceiling-mounted machine."

The fire was extinguished in six minutes, and operations at the plant resumed by 4:35 a.m., fire officials said.

Damage to the machine was estimated at $10,000, and there was no damage to the building's structure.

No injuries were reported in the blaze either.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
