No injuries in Lake Villa house fire Monday

No injuries were reported after fire broke out Monday evening in the kitchen of a Lake Villa home, authorities said.

Lake Villa Fire Protection District officials said firefighters were dispatched at 6:49 p.m. to the house on the 100 block of Oak Lane Drive. Firefighters reported smoke and fire visible from the outside.

Residents of the home had safely exited the house before firefighters arrived.

The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, but firefighters were on scene until 10 p.m. investigating the cause, which remains undetermined.

Fire officials said the blaze started in the kitchen, but was not due to unattended cooking.

The house sustained in excess of $35,000 in damage and was deemed uninhabitable, fire officials said.
