Diplomatic boycott puts China on notice

In the face of China's genocide and communist coercion, President Joe Biden's decision to initiate a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games supports the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter, the tenets of international human rights law and the letter and spirit of the United States Constitution.

Rather than embrace dictatorship, denialism and destruction, President Biden provides the world with hope in the causes of liberty and justice.

As the globe nears the completion of yet another trip around the sun and enters the new year, it is quite clear that humanity is engaged in another confrontation between freedom and tyranny.

America did not ask to be thrust into the path of a regime bent on the purification of their population through ethnic cleansing, economic manipulation of free markets and the domination of neighboring nations; however, here we stand.

We must not turn away from President Xi Jinping's crimes against humanity, but face him boldly, as President Biden did with this brave boycott. We cannot allow our rightful obsession with peace to preclude us from taking the necessary steps to protect our people and the humanitarian values upon which liberal democracy rests.

If we fail to follow this noble decision with swift action, in defense of ourselves and our allies in peril, we will join Rome and Athens in the galaxy of collapsed stars. It is our obligation as free peoples to use this moment as a starting point of strength against the uncertainty that lies ahead.

President Biden's choice is one rooted in the wisdom of history, the possibilities of the present and the dazzling beauty of the future. I commend the noble diplomatic boycott of the games and I have absolute faith that our American athletes will claim victory in Beijing.
