Two men charged in July Willowbrook carjacking
Two men have been charged with carjacking an elderly couple's car in Willowbrook over the summer, the DuPage County state's attorney's office reported Tuesday.
Kevin Sanders, of the 300 block of Brown Street, West Lafayette, Indiana, and Antonio Davis, of the 8700 block of S. Burley Avenue, Chicago, are currently in custody in Indiana on unrelated charges.
Both men are facing the felony charge of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery and theft. Sanders, 22, faces additional charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and Davis, 20, faces charges of armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of robbery, according to the state's attorney's office.
Sanders and Davis are accused of carjacking a couple's vehicle at about 2:47 p.m. July 15 after the couple stopped at the Citgo Gas Station, 6900 Kingery Hwy. in Willowbrook, according to the state's attorney's office news release. Authorities said Sanders and Davis approached the car - one from each side - with weapons and forced the couple out of the car. They also reportedly stole their phones, cash, the man's wallet and the woman's purse.
Police said they learned August 16 that both Sanders and Davis had been arrested by the West Lafayette Police Department July 28 for armed robbery and other offenses, and both men have been held in custody in Indiana since.
Upon disposition of their cases in Indiana, Sanders and Davis will be extradited to DuPage County, the news release said.
If they are found guilty, they could faces sentencing from 21 to 45 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
