Lake Barrington freezes property tax levy

Lake Barrington will keep its property tax levy flat next year.

The village board voted to that effect at a meeting earlier this month. Meeting documents state that the tax levy amounts to $823,000 and that "the village is in a strong financial position."

In a news release, the village attributed that to its "disciplined management of taxpayer dollars and its commitment to economic development," as well as the addition of several new businesses that bring in additional tax revenue.

"We believe taxpayers' money belongs to our residents, and we pride ourselves on being good stewards of their hard-earned tax dollars," said Lake Barrington Village President Kevin Richardson.

"The combination of Lake Barrington's unique charm, our careful economic and fiscal planning, and our welcoming business climate has enabled us to create a community that residents and businesses can both enjoy for years to come," he added.

Last year, the board approved a $50,000 grant program to help local restaurants face the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The board of trustees and I are grateful for our residents' continued support of our local businesses through these challenging times," Richardson said.

"With this step, and our continued economic development efforts, we look forward to continuing to build our brand as an oasis of gracious countryside living."
