Mid-West Moving honored for charitable efforts

ELK GROVE VILLAGE - Mid-West Moving & Storage has been recognized by the nonprofit Move For Hunger for its outstanding performance and goodwill in delivering large amounts of food in recent years.

People tend to throw a lot of "stuff" away when they move, including perfectly good food. As part of Move For Hunger's national network of relocation professionals, Mid-West Moving provides its customers with the opportunity to donate unopened, nonperishable food during the moving process. The moving company then delivers the donations to the food bank for free.

Mid-West Moving also holds an annual food drive and is willing to donate time, trucks and men to deliver large quantities of locally donated food as needed, the nonprofit group said.

"Nearly 1.2 million people in Illinois are food insecure, including 1 in 8 children," said Adam Lowy, executive director of Move For Hunger. "Mid-West Moving & Storage has been one of the biggest supporters of our mission to reduce food waste and fight hunger."

More than 42 million Americans face hunger each day. Meanwhile, 35% of the food in the United States each year is wasted.

"We continue to support this great cause to give back to the community and support Move For Hunger's mission to fight hunger," said Kari-Ann Ryan, director of marketing and development for Mid-West Moving.
