That noisy-car spirit

Just adding my two cents to the noise topic: Back in the late 1960s I needed a car to get from campus to the high school where I was student teaching. We found an affordable used car with dual exhaust pipes, glass pack mufflers and taped-on racing stripes.

I was in heaven until my dad insisted that we take the car to his service station and remove the duals and glass packs. He was certain that, knowing me, I would run afoul of the police with that charming set of options. He was probably right ... noise to draw attention. I am now less fond of car noise, but can appreciate the spirit behind it.
