An Elgin man faces an aggravated assault charge after police say he waved a handgun during a traffic dispute in Bartlett.

Javaris D. Westbrook, 31, was charged with the Class A misdemeanor and released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond, Bartlett police said

According to police, officers were dispatched at about 8:40 a.m. Monday to the area of Route 25 and Stearns Road to investigate an alleged aggravated assault that occurred during a traffic dispute.

Police allege Westbrook was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata south on Route 25 near Bluff City Boulevard when he reportedly waved and pointed the gun at a 37-year-old man who was also driving southbound on Route 25.

Westbrook's next scheduled court date is Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Kane County court facility in St. Charles.
