Proceeds from Aurora golf outing goes to nonprofits serving veterans

Aurora began its Veterans Day celebration early by paying honor and funds for those who have served the nation.

During the Nov. 9 city council meeting, Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, a U.S. Army veteran, was honored to present checks to military veterans and to food pantries that serve them.

Proceeds from an annual golf outing were distributed to the Fox Valley Marines Detachment 1233 for $15,000, and another $12,000 was distributed to two Aurora food pantries.

Both the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry and the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry received $6,000 to support their efforts to help veterans in need.
