Suburban woman named to Fresenius Kabi Blood Donation Hall of Fame

LAKE ZURICH - Fresenius Kabi announced Tuesday said it has inducted 12 people and groups as the 2021 class of the Fresenius Kabi Blood Donation Hall of Fame. The nationwide program recognizes and shares the unique stories of people who are passionate about and committed to blood donation.

Included in the class is Laurie Brey, who donates at Versiti Blood Center of Illinois in Grayslake. She has made 36 donations and regularly donates four times a year. She began hosting larger blood drives at her church and then company. In 2020 her drives brought in 265 donations.

Brey makes sure she has materials translated into Spanish, and gets support from her church, so that all potential donors know and understand how important their donation is - especially given the special blood types many of the diverse donors in her community have, Fresenius Kabi said.

Fresenius Kabi is a global health care company that specializes in medicines and technologies for infusion, transfusion and clinical nutrition. It has been inducting people into its blood donation Hall of Fame since 1998.

"This year's inductees showed an extraordinary dedication to helping others by selflessly donating and volunteering time to ensure this lifesaving resource is available to anyone in need during a pandemic, and we are honored to recognize their exceptional contributions to the community," said Dean Gregory, president, Global Commercial Operations, Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapies, Fresenius Kabi.
