White takes another step forward in shoulder rehab
Coby White has taken another step forward in his recovery from left shoulder surgery in June. At the end of Friday's practice, he was seen playing against competition for the first time.
Granted, it was controlled three-on-three setting against mostly people from the Bulls' player development staff, but it was more than just shooting against no defense.
"They have instructions of what kind of contact he needs to be involved (with)," coach Billy Donovan said. "He is obviously not been cleared to be in a full-fledged random practice where he's out there playing yet. So I don't know how close he is.
"But he's certainly gotten better and progressed. I think the other thing too is going to be his strength and stability, that's probably the biggest thing of where he's at - (left arm) over his head, out in front of him. But we feel like he's progressing and doing a good job. I just don't know when he gets cleared to practice."
The Bulls are leaving on a West Coast trip next week. White could conceivably stay behind and get some practices in with the Windy City Bulls, if he's ready.
Windy City opens the G-League season on Saturday in Fort Wayne, the first of a two-game series. The home opener at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates is set for Wed., Nov. 17.
