Thomas J. Canale receives Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award from Northwestern University

The Northwestern University School of Professional Studies has honored Thomas J. Canale, CFP®, ChFC®, ChSNC®, CLU®, a wealth management advisor and founding partner of Canale Financial Group and managing director of the Northwestern Mutual Rosemont office with its Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award.

Each year since 1988, Northwestern University School of Professional Studies honors three recipients, one each from the undergraduate, graduate, and professional development faculty, who their students have nominated. Canale has been an instructor in the Certified Financial Planner - Certification Education Program since 2013.

"Tom is passionate about comprehensive financial planning and the impact it has on clients," said Alison Fyhrie, financial advisor and a former student in his Introduction to Financial Planning class. " He is a straight shooter who genuinely cares about developing the next generation of leaders. It was his belief in me, before I ever believed in myself, that led me to the career where I now can empower my clients, mostly women, to dream big through courageous conversations."

As a managing director, Canale and his leadership team attract, develop and engage a team of financial professionals within Northwestern Mutual's Rosemont office to build their businesses focused on their clients' best interests through comprehensive financial planning.

As a wealth management advisor and founder of Canale Financial Group, he leads a multigenerational team of financial professionals that provide resources and guide clients to make informed financial decisions for each phase of their life.

A 1995 graduate of Marquette University with a bachelor's degree in Finance, Canale is a Certified Financial Planner professional (CFP, Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNC®) and Chartered Life Underwriting (CLU®).

A lifetime qualifying member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, Canale has earned multiple company awards from Northwestern Mutual, including being inducted into the elite Forum Membership, representing the top 5% of the company's industry-leading advisors. In addition, in 2018, he was named one of Chicago's Top 100 Notable Financial Advisors by Crain's Chicago Business.

Canale has won the Northwestern Mutual Foundation Community Service Award twice for his work with Envision Unlimited, a non-profit dedicated to empowering and providing opportunities to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities

He resides in Elmhurst, Illinois, with his wife and their two sons.
