Remember your loved ones at All Saints' Day service

First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights' Music Ministry will present Howard Goodall's "Eternal Light: A Requiem" for its communitywide All Saints' Day Service.

While traditional requiems focus on praying for salvation for the departed's soul, Goodall's "Eternal Light: A Requiem" focuses on comforting the living who grieve losing someone close to them and aiding in their recovery.

"Eternal Light: A Requiem" combines choir, orchestra and dance to transport one from the day to day, to evoke a peaceful place, and convey a sense of the soul's flight.

The service will feature poetry readings and hymns alongside the traditional All Saints' Day service texts, as well as dancers Sarah O'Keeffe and Tori Stewart, of the Trifecta Dance Collective, performing choreography by Katie Carey, co-founder and co-director of the Chicago-based dance company Purus Motus.

"We invite you to experience the communitywide All Saints' Service of Remembrance, and encourage you to invite a friend," said Director of Music and Worship Adam Hendrickson.

"Together, we will experience the incredible and deeply emotional conversation surrounding grief and loss, search for the kindly light, and find the healing grace that one step forward has to offer."

First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights' All Saints' Day service is Wednesday, Nov. 3, and is open to the public. There will be a family dinner and fellowship at 6 p.m. The presentation of "Eternal Light: A Requiem" will start at 7 p.m.

The freewill offering collected during the service will be donated to JourneyCare, the largest nonprofit for palliative, supportive and hospice care in Illinois and Chicago.
