Elmhurst BSA Troop 117 honors four Eagle Scouts
Elmhurst Scouts BSA Troop 117 has had a busy season inducting Eagle Scouts from within its ranks. At least 10 Scouts have earned the honor in the past year.
Over the summer, the troop recognized its first female to achieve the Eagle Scout rank. Lombard resident Caitlyn Oliva was presented her badge during an outdoor Court of Honor ceremony on Aug. 13.
For her project, Oliva designed and oversaw the construction of two conductor podiums for the music department at Glenbard East High School in Lombard.
"We asked Caitlyn to give us something spectacular and, gosh, did she deliver," Glenbard East music teacher Tim Faulks said. "We are so appreciative of all her contributions to Glenbard East, and this is just one more example."
On Sunday, Oct 17, two Scouts earned the honor during a ceremony outside of the Elmhurst History Museum.
Scouts Timothy Gley and Nathan Yang received their Eagle Scout badge and ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held for their projects. Gley built two benches and Yang built two Little Free Library boxes.
"This is a huge achievement for these boys since they had to work through COVID precautions and still include the troop in their projects," Scout leader Germaine Yang said. "A huge shoutout has been earned by them."
Last year, in early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, James Clohessy earned the honor during a virtual board of review on May 1, 2020.
An outdoor ceremony and celebration was eventually held in September last year, where Clohessy received his Eagle Scout badge.
Clohessy designed and built a fire ring with three rows of benches at St. Iakovos Retreat Center in Kansasville, Wisconsin. Clohessy now serves as an assistant junior Scoutmaster for Troop 117. Other Troop 117 members who earned their Eagle Scout badge are Kiran Moore, Nick Mastro, Walter Pasek, Florian Pasek, Luke LaMorte, Ryan Wiechman and Kaitlyn McGehee.
