Water main replacement work resumes in Gurnee

Work began this week on the second phase of replacing an aging cast iron water main under Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee, closing a portion of the road to all but local traffic.

The work entails drilling under the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks and installing water main from First Street to Fire Station No. 1 along Old Grand Avenue. The first phase of the project, completed last summer, included replacement of the main from Ferndale Street to First Street.

Access to Viking Middle School, Viking Park, homes and local businesses will remain open throughout the project, but temporary road closures may occur. Detours will be posted for through traffic.
