Students and Staff honored at Buffalo Grove High School for September

The 2021-2022 school year continues to honor those who have positively stood out among their peers and colleagues. One staff member and an outstanding student from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School have been selected to be honored as the September Students and Staff Member of the Month.

Education Pathway instructors Tim Kosiek and Maggie Sheehy, from the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Division, nominated senior Chloe Wintergerst for the September Student of the Month. Chloe has taken education courses since her sophomore year and serves as the "AM High School Helper" for the Little Bison Daycare program. The two share that "Chloe embodies all of the characteristics of a successful teacher. Her kind demeanor, hard work and positive attitude makes her a joy to have in class."

Sheehy added that, "We are excited to nominate Chloe, and look forward to hearing about her future classroom and the impact that she makes in the lives of her students."

The World Languages & Social Science division has chosen to recognize senior Jaclyn Rende.

Nominating teacher, Peter Duffer, says, "Jaclyn Rende has shown excellent participation and leadership in AP Economics by helping classmates in small group work and participating in the broader group discussions. Jaclyn has completed her work for class with diligence and pride."

The Music Division September Student of the Month is senior Megan Snow, who was nominated by Henry Kappler, band director and Music Workshop teacher.

"Megan Snow is the tireless student leader of the BGHS marching band. She approaches every rehearsal and performance with a heart of true service and set's an amazing example for her peers," said Kappler.

Sidney Lee is the English & EL Division September student of the month, and was nominated by teachers Lauren Stenzel and Beth Wells.

Stenzel states, "Sidney Lee is an exceptional thinker and pushes herself to learn every day. While we were learning at home, Sidney pushed her peers to better themselves every day by consistently engaging in critical thinking. Sidney is generous and kind, and works to her potential every day. She also just got back from a 6 week music intensive and has jumped right into Humanities with eagerness to learn and willingness to participate. We appreciate her voice in class and will continue to tap into her knowledge of music experience as an artist in this field."

The Physical Education/Driver's Education Division selected Isabella Wojciechowski.

Teacher William Montemayor shares that, "during fitness testing, Isabella was among the top performing females in nearly every testing category. Her effort and passion for fitness and health are on display on a daily basis. She is a pleasure to have in class and her effort brings out the best in her classmates. She is exactly the type of student we should be celebrating at BG and I am proud to nominate her for PE student of the month."

Biology teacher Paige Fullhart nominated Vanesa Sebastian to represent the Math/Science division as student of the month.

Fullhart says, "From the first day of school, Vanesa has become an incredible asset in my ELL biology class. I have many students that are very new to our country and timid in regards to speaking English. In addition, at times they understand content better when instructed in both English and Spanish. I lost my ELL aide due to her getting a teaching job, leaving me to attempt to address the language and learning levels in my class alone. Vanesa rose to the occasion immediately and started to walk around and translate and assist her peers she could see were struggling. She is a bright star that I am incredibly proud of and lucky to have."

The Student Services Division selected senior Robert Barrie as its September student of the month.

Nominating teacher Laura Stock says that Barrie, "has gotten off to a tremendous start so far this year. Currently, he is achieving straight A's in all of his classes while also participating in the district PAC program (Practical Architectural Construction)."

She goes on to say, "Following remote, hybrid, and partial in-person models last year, Robert is really doing an excellent job so far this year and now serves as a positive role model/leader for my other students. I am really proud of him!"

Finally, the September Staff Member of the month is Brittney Vesper nominated by the Student Services Department. Vesper consistently goes above and beyond to support all of the students that cross her path. Her empathetic, supportive and proactive approach has proved time and time again to increase the success of her students. She consistently collaboratives with all team members to determine individualized plans that will best meet the students' needs. Her commitment to our students and school community is recognized and appreciated.
