Outlawing abortion won't address human flaws

Ah yes, another letter about God giving people the ability to make choices and if the right choices were made then abortion would be unnecessary. The same overly-simplistic arguments continue after at least hundreds of years.

Perhaps the author could have mentioned the old Biblical and Jewish laws that said that sex should only be for procreation, and that all people are required to produce children. The Bible does not equate sex and love as modern society does.

If all people were capable of being ideal, highly intelligent, logical, completely self-controlled and sexually responsible, then the only abortion needed would be for medical necessity to save the life of a woman when a pregnancy goes wrong.

People have never been the ideals listed above and never will be. It seems that God creates people to be generally deficient in logic, self-control and sexual responsibility.

We live in a country that protects the right to be ignorant and make bad choices. Laws cannot change people or eliminate abortion. Laws can only legalize abortion, which removes it from the criminal element and places it in the hands of trained medical professionals, or ban it, which places it into the criminal element of untrained and unsafe practitioners.

Which way is more ethical? Which way causes people to suffer less? A lot of unborn babies are killed either way. In the criminal element, a lot of women die also.

Abortion is a very complicated matter. There is no simple easy answer. Beware of overly-simplistic arguments. Many people have said before that if people were intelligent then abortion would disappear. That may be true, but it isn't going to happen.
