Changes coming to Des Plaines gas station

The Des Plaines City Council this week approved a plan to convert a car wash at a local gas station to a convenience store.

The proposal is for the Mobil station at 2000 Mannheim Road, which is the southwest corner of Mannheim and Howard Avenue.

The existing building's facade will change but an addition isn't needed, officials said.

After a brief discussion by the council, the plan passed unanimously.
