More 2,500 Aurorans recycle 80,000 lbs. over the weekend

It was a "Go Clean, Go Green" weekend in Aurora, and residents in the state's second-largest city were able to recycle items for free at two drive-through events.

More than 2,500 people disposed of over 40 tons of items during the free Electronics Recycle Drive-Thru and the free Shred-It Drive-Thru at separate locations this morning.

A limit of two free televisions of any size and an unlimited amount of other approved electronics were collected from residents who came with vehicles filled with items, including vacuum cleaners, toaster ovens, VCRs, and landline phones.

Up to five boxes of documents per resident were accepted at the Shred-It Drive-Thru, where they were collected and shredded safely and securely on-site.

Volunteers, city staff, and city council members kept the long lines of participants moving quickly and efficiently.

The shredding event is held annually, and electronics recycling is offered twice per year.
