Geneva named state's most coffee-obsessed city

A mattress company has crowned Geneva as Illinois' most coffee-obsessed city following new research.

The study by sleep experts Zoma Sleep found Geneva has the highest ratio of coffee shops to people, with 13 dedicated coffee outlets serving a population of 21,674 residents. That equates to one coffee shop for every 1,667 people in town, the highest ratio out of the 20 Illinois communities included in the study.

The study analyzed Yelp data to find the number of coffee shops in more than 10,000 cities and towns across the U.S., and then cross-referenced them with the number of people living in each place to reveal where coffee is most popular. This data was then separated by state.

Niles was second on Illinois' regional list, thanks to its 12 coffee shops and a population of 28,615, which means there is a business selling coffee for every 2,385 people in the city.

Schaumburg placed eighth on the list with one coffee shop per 3,792 residents. Naperville was 13th with one coffee shop per 5,919.

By comparison, among major cities nationally, San Francisco took top honors with 1,641 people per coffee shop.
