Deer in the rope swing
Kudos to all who helped rescue a buck whose antlers got caught in a Barrington rope swing. Lake County sheriff's deputy Tommy Flores contacted Dawn Keller, founder and director of Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, to help free the deer. A couple hours later, the buck headed off into the words. We love happy endings.
The final-days-of-summer fests

Busse Woods trail speed limit
New signs on the trail in Busse Woods, near Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village, show a 15 mph speed limit. We know there are cyclists who exceed that, but the key take-away is this: Riders who want to go fast not only must be careful for others, of course, but also should simply avoid Busse Woods on weekends and maybe even on weekday evenings.

Thank you to the crews who are starting to patch up some cracks and potholes. The popular trail's getting beaten up a bit, and there's plenty left to fix, but at least it's getting a little love.
Proof of Vaccine FAQ
In the wake of the charges filed against a suburban woman accused of traveling to Hawaii on a fraudulent vaccine card: Yes, these cards are easy to falsify. No, falsifying them is not worth getting arrested. Finally, if you stop and think about it, there's less hassle in getting vaccinated than in pretending you did.
RVs and trucks on the drive
South Barrington officials are reviewing village codes to further restrict the parking of RVs and commercial trucks even on driveways. The irony is most of the homes in South Barrington actually have room for RV or truck parking. The question is what steps do the owners take to ensure that they fit in with the ambience of the neighborhood?

Raise a glass of root beer
A company plans to open a new A & W restaurant by the end of the year in a former Burger King in Addison. It's good to known the shuttered building at 1012 N. Rohlwing Road won't stay vacant for long. Also, having it become an A & W restaurant sounds great, because root beer floats are delicious.
Phone not in service
Schools are back in session, so time for a reminder. Let's be alert, diligent and concerned for our children's safety. Like this road-sign message near a local grade school: "Cell phone use prohibited in school zone." Important words, yes, but also words that pretty much apply to all roadways.
A really big game for Judson
For the first time since Judson University opened in 1963, the Eagles have a football team, and will open today against Taylor University of Upland, Ind. Congratulations and best wishes to coach Dan Paplaczyk and his team. Game time is 6 p.m. at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville. You're invited.
Happy trails, Pete
