Arlington Heights names new public works director

Cris Papierniak has been named the new public works director in Arlington Heights, after the recent retirement of longtime director Scott Shirley.

Papierniak, who has been the department's assistant director since 2014, was promoted by Village Manager Randy Recklaus.

As assistant director, Papierniak was responsible for direct management of large-scale projects and oversight of streets, forestry and grounds, fleet services, and building maintenance responsibilities. He now oversees a department of 104 employees and several ongoing infrastructure projects.

Papierniak was previously director of public works and engineering in Cary and Prospect Heights. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin, and is a licensed professional engineer.
