We can't 'get along' without accountability

Regarding the Daily Herald eitorial of Aug. 8 entitled "Forsaking demonization, embracing the power of optimism":

During these times, I have been optimistic and hopeful. I observe what's happening around me and take appropriate action based on science and followed up with common sense. Concern for others is guided by my faith as well as an obligation and privilege of being an American citizen.

I pray for those who deny climate change. Those that deny the world pandemic. Those that have made the mask a sign of weakness or loss of one's freedom. I'd rather pray for them than attempt a rational civic-minded discussion because their response is always the same. Deflection. Denial. Insult. Repeat.

No facts. No common sense. Just conspiracy theories and lies grounded in what's best for their political cult allegiance, not their Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag.

They constantly complain about the flag being disrespected when someone takes a knee to draw attention to systemic racism.

Then they not only deny systemic racism, they and their cult leader incite and cheer on domestic terrorists who used that same American flag to physically beat American police defending our Capitol against desecration.

Despite the cult mentality that those folks have fallen victim to, I am optimistic that we will survive this embarrassing time in history. Like the editorial says, "As scary as it is, we (as Americans) have to believe we can do something about it. And we can."

"Yes we can!" as a former legitimate president used to say. Rely on science. Rely on facts. Ground behavior in common sense and faith, not conspiracy.

Sorry, DH, now is not the time to "just get along" and "move forward and solve problems together." There can be no "together" until there is accountability from those domestic terrorists and radicalized politicians who place one man over country, constitution and flag.
