Could Cubs play in Field of Dreams game next year?

Will the Cubs play in the corn next year?

It might happen, if MLB decides to play another Field of Dreams Game in Dyersville, Iowa next year.

Cubs manager David Ross made it sound like that's in store before Wednesday's game against Milwaukee. The Des Moines Register reported the Cubs are in negotiations to play in Iowa next year. The date and opponent are not known.

When the subject of Thursday's Field of Dreams Game between the White Sox and Yankees came up, Ross commented, "We're in that next year, right?"

When a media relations director did not advance the conversation, Ross quickly added, "No we're not, no we're not."

It would make sense to play another game in Dyersville, a town just west of Dubuque, since MLB built a major league caliber field from scratch for this one. The Cubs' Triple A team plays in Des Moines, so the Cubs probably have a decent amount of fans in Iowa.

Last year, the White Sox were supposed to play the Cardinals in the initial Field of Dreams Game, but that plan was scrapped by the pandemic. The Cubs were originally scheduled to play the Cardinals in London last June.

"I was really looking forward to that last year," Ross said of the London series.
