No more late fees: Elmhurst Public Library goes fine free
The Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., no longer charges fines on overdue items checked out at the library.
Here's how it works:
• Items still have due dates.
• Reminders for due dates are sent via text and/or email. Sign up at elmlib.org/textalerts or elmlib.org/account.
• When an item is two weeks overdue, the account is blocked until the item is returned.
The Fine Free movement is growing in the library world and has been adopted by many local libraries.
The Elmhurst Public Library strives to break down this access barrier and more equitably serve the community.
Eliminating overdue charges is a way to welcome back anyone who felt discouraged about using the library due to a fine on their account.
