Chicago man accused of trying to rob delivery driver at a Naperville store

Bail was set at $750,000 Wednesday for a 31-year-old Chicago man authorities say tried to rob a beverage truck driver Tuesday in Naperville.

Frederick Holmon, of the 100 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, is charged with one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

The attempted robbery happened around 8:50 a.m. when a delivery driver was unloading pallets of liquor and wine to deliver to the Jewel-Osco store at 1759 W. Ogden Ave. A man dressed all in black and armed with a 9 mm semi-automatic rifle approached the driver and said, "It's not worth your life."

The driver refused to turn over any property and ran toward a Jewel-Osco employee, yelling, "The guy's got a gun."

The attacker got in a Chevrolet Suburban, which drove off east on Aurora Avenue. A witness took a photograph of the vehicle, and another person followed it and took a photo of a license plate.

Naperville police stopped the vehicle on River Road. Holmon and two other men were in the vehicle, according to the news release.

Officers who searched the Suburban recovered a 9 mm semi-automatic rifle, an extended magazine with 16 rounds, and a .357 revolver loaded with six rounds.

Holmon's next court appearance is on Aug. 11. He would need to post a $75,000 bond to be released before trial.

If found guilty, Holmon could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
