Czarnik/Heffern Scholarship Fund names Elk Grove student winners

The Frank J. Czarnik/Jim Heffern Scholarship Fund board announced that 10 scholarships for $1,000 each have been awarded to student residents of Elk Grove, in recognition of their community leadership and service.

From Conant High School: Ashley Cyr, attending Ohio State University; Lillianne Devereux, attending University of Minnesota; Lily Hirsch, attending Illinois State University; Megan Ja, attending University of Wisconsin; Jessica Malecki, attending Purdue University; Jessica Ann Miller, attending University of Alabama; and Lauren Yuan, attending University of Illinois.

From Elk Grove High School: Gavin McCorry, attending Augustana College; Alexander Olson, attending University of Wisconsin-Platteville; and Alyssa J. Trausch, attending Nova Southeastern University.

Over the past 14 years, the scholarships have been primarily funded by an annual golf outing held at Fox Run Golf Links, 333 Plum Grove Road, Elk Grove Village. The day features 18 holes in a four-man scramble format, with prizes including a hole-in-one contest where participants can win a car, compliments of Woody Buick-GMC in Naperville. The day also includes a raffle.

This year's outing will be held Friday, Aug. 6, with staggered start from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The $90 per person entrance fee includes golf fees, power cart, boxed lunch and more. Get details at czarnikgolf.com/ or register by calling the Fox Run Pro Shop, (847) 228-3544.

Frank Czarnik and Jim Heffern were passionate public servants who are remembered for their dedication to the Elk Grove community and work through the Elk Grove Park District.

Inspired by this lifetime commitment to public service, their families and other community leaders initiated the awards to recognize high school seniors who have also been active in their community and given their time to others.
