Pointless politics
On Thursday, July 15, the Daily Herald published an opinion column by Bryan York titled "Would Democrats still love vaccine if Trump had won?"
I really wish nobody would care about that question. Do we have a pandemic? Answer: Yes and it is not just in the U.S. It's worldwide. Do we have measures to prevent or reduce the spread? Yup. Do we have a vaccine that can minimize the spread, seriousness and death? We have several. Is there any political reason that should help determine whether we make use of those measures? Nope, politics is not relevant.
Should everyone definitely get vaccinated? Should children get vaccinated? Now, those are worth reasonable discussion. There is no single, simple answer to those questions.
But who cares whether the Dems or Repubs were "right all along" or "flip-flopped" their position? That is just dumb. The election and who is in power is such a lower priority than whether people are still dying from the virus.
Worry about that later if you must. But if you must engage in pointless hypothetical debate, maybe instead ask whether there would have been fewer deaths if Trump had won.
