Palatine's Canine Carnival is now open for registration

Palatine Park District presents the annual Canine Carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 256 E. Palatine Road, in Palatine.

This special event is a carnival designed just for dogs and their owners. There are new timeslots this year for large and small dogs. Each registered dog can be accompanied by one person. Additional people, or those without dogs, will need to register for $1 each.

This year's event will feature free goody bags, games, complimentary raffles, souvenir photos of pets and their owners, and more.

In addition to these Palatine Park District sponsored activities, a variety of vendors will be on-site to share canine information and their love of dogs.

This year's event sponsors include A Closer Bond Dog Training, Consumers Credit Union, Golf Rose Animal Hospital, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services-Sue Gould, and Strawberry Fields Rescue Illinois.

Each dog in attendance will receive a goody bag, a free raffle ticket and a souvenir photo with their owner. Prizes for the free raffles have been donated by event sponsors.

All dogs are required to be leashed and accompanied by a handler age 16 or older, and all dogs must be wearing a current rabies tag to participate. Dogs without a current rabies tag will not be allowed to enter.

Registration is $10 per dog with handler and can be completed in advance through July 28. Palatine residents must wear the village of Palatine issued license tag to participate in the event. Nonresidents must bring current identification along with required paperwork to register. This is a village of Palatine ordinance and is therefore a requirement to participate.

Preregistration is preferred and is available online at palatineparks.org using program number 340030-01 for large dogs, 340030-02 for small dogs, and 340030-03 or 340030-04 for those without dogs.

Registration can be completed in person at Birchwood Recreation Center, Community Center, or Falcon Park Recreation Center. Registration will be accepted at the event as well.
