Don't rob students of our true history

Critical Race Theory is in the headlines. Schools should teach the historical truth about discrimination and racism in our country. The facts, no matter how horrid, should be presented and students should be free to discuss the meaning these facts had and should have for all races in the U.S.

Quoting Education Week: "Schools should provide an opportunity (for students) to critique the causes of social equality (in the past) and in their own lives."

In my mind, for students to make good and proper choices in their lives now and in the future, they must understand the past and current situations regarding race in the United States and around the world. It would be a dereliction of duty and responsibility for schools not to pursue and provide the truth of racism and in addition provide opportunity for discussion about racism if we truly believe "all men are created equal."
