Fire does $125,000 damage to Hawthorn Woods home

No injuries were reported in a Hawthorn Woods fire Tuesday afternoon.

The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a call on the 0-100 block of North Alder Court at about 4 p.m.

The homeowner discovered the fire in the basement and called 911.

Officials said that upon arrival, firefighters reported seeing smoke from the windows of the first and second floors of a single-family residence.

The blaze was under control within minutes and contained to the basement. Damages from fire and smoke are estimated at around $125,000.

Preliminary investigation points to an electrical appliance as the cause, officials said.
