Oversize footprint

Every time I drive through downtown Wheaton I'm amazed that they seem to have the gas fireplace in the Martin Memorial Plaza burning 24/7 even in 90-plus degrees heat.

In 2021 with climate change and energy conservation being leading topics of discussion, it is unfathomable to me that they even approved the fireplace in the planning stage.

It shows a clear disregard of the urgency of addressing the climate crisis in every way we can.

Every office in any city, township, county, state and federal government need to assess their policies and actions to try and reduce their carbon footprint.

Ornamental fireplaces do not seem to qualify.
