Celebrate art with the Des Plaines Public Library this summer

Celebrate art with the Des Plaines Public Library this summer via a slew of creative programs.

The youth, teen and adult summer reading programs all have the theme of "Reading is Art-rageous."

The programs run through Aug. 1.

Reading books qualifies participants for prizes, including gift cards and a membership to the Art Institute of Chicago.

Additionally, young library patrons are encouraged to express their artistic skills in different ways. They can paint, dance, take photographs or be artistic in other ways.

Kids who are in eighth grade or younger also can earn prizes by completing the activities depicted on a special card. They include reading with a pet or stuffed animal, attending a virtual library program and going on a nature walk.
