Elgin Summer Theatre to put on 'Nunsense' outdoors in July

The Hemmens Cultural Center and Up and Coming Theatre Company are happy to announce that Elgin Summer Theatre will present an outdoor version of the hit comedy, "Nunsense," this summer. Performances will take place July 9-11 and 16-18 at the Wing Park Band Shell in Elgin.

The EST production of "In the Heights" has been rescheduled to summer 2022.

"Nunsense" is an audience interactive show that EST is excited to bring to an outdoor setting. The fresh air and ample space of Wing Park will be home to the "Little Sisters of Hoboken" this summer.

Join the Little Sisters of Hoboken as they put on a fundraising show to raise money to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God). This zany, wholesome, hilarious musical revue presented by the Little Sisters of Hoboken is a heavenly delight!

The show will be produced by Lindsey Weiss, directed and choreographed by Dina DiCostanzo and vocal directed by Kelly Fitzgerald.

The Hemmens Cultural Center and the board of directors of Up and Coming are incredibly grateful to be able to provide, through Elgin Summer Theatre, an in-person theater experience that will allow for social distancing in an outdoor venue. They hope you'll join the "Sisters" this summer for all the fun.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, July 9-10, 16-17, with 3 p.m. matinees on Sundays, July 11 and 18.

All tickets are $15 each. For tickets for groups of 20 or more or questions, call the Hemmens box office at (847) 931-5900.

There will be benches and picnic tables as a basic general admission ticket or you can select a lawn pod. If you buy a lawn pod, you are buying all of the spots in that pod. The pods are for up to 2, 4, or 6 people.

They are suggesting you bring chairs for the rear pods for your comfort. For the front pods, chairs are not permitted but they suggest you bring blankets to sit on. For the benches, feel free to bring a blanket or cushion.

If you are sitting in a pod, or are able to snag a picnic table, enjoy a Ravinia-style evening and bring food and nonalcoholic beverages to quietly enjoy during the show. Picnic tables are in the general admission category and can comfortably sit four. No food will be permitted in the bench section.

Masks are required. COVID-19 precautions and protocol are subject to change.
