Heroic school year
Recently the Daily Herald gave well-deserved Page 1 congratulations to the Class of 2021. On whatever level such as high school, college, etc., this class and the Class of 2020 endured the most unique circumstances for learning.
The word "hero" has been used quite a bit during this pandemic. Rather often, the word conjures images of swashbuckling deeds of derring-do. But there are various ways to define "hero" in light of the last two graduation classes.
Being a hero is not easy. Real heroes are their struggles and ability of overcome them. This the Classes of 2020 and '21 have done.
It is my fervent wish that the Class of 2021 may be the last class to miss a commencement because of a pandemic. Or for reasons of a war, climate change, unrest, tyranny, active shooter, and apathy.
Well done, Class of 2020 and '21. On whatever level, you are a graduate. Go forth and be "heroes" in your way.
