Judge delays decision on recount in DuPage

It's not yet clear whether a candidate has to pay for a judge-ordered recount in DuPage County. Judge Craig Belford on Friday delayed a decision on whether Republican Bob Grogan, who lost the November race for county auditor, will need to pay for a recount. Grogan was defeated by Democrat William "Bill" White by 75 votes, according to official results. Judge Craig Belford has since ordered a recount, but the process is yet to begin. One reason is that it hasn't been determined who would pay for the recount. County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek has asked the judge to order Grogan to put up an unspecified cash deposit -- or other security -- before the recount can occur. The clerk estimates the recount will cost nearly $290,000 - an amount Grogan insists is too high. Belford won't decide the issue until at least July 9.
