'Learned helplessness' and the family structure

With Father's Day just passed, I've been thinking that it's funny that I've never, ever heard liberals point to the lack of family structure as a cause of poverty, crime, income disparity and health/longevity, when statistically it's a fact.

Those issues are always someone else's fault and it's easier to point fingers at others. Lori Lightfoot's assertion recently that the disparity in longevity by Chicago neighborhood is a result of systemic racism is a prime example. But a solid family structure and family support does require commitment, sacrifice and family engagement after all.

"Learned helplessness" seems to be the norm in this country, and that which many would like to see continue.
