Aurora's Flowing Fourth Church set outdoor, drive-in worship

On Sunday, July 4, Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora will launch monthly drive-in worship services through September.

The Rev. Derek Rogers, pastor, said outdoor services - weather permitting - are set for 10 a.m. on July 4, Aug. 1 and Sept. 5. The location is Aurora Christian Schools parking lot, 2255 Sullivan Road in Aurora. The public is invited to worship in their vehicles or set up lawn chairs. Communion is celebrated with prepackaged elements.

In case of inclement weather, services are held in the ACS theater room.

On July 4, the Rev. Rogers will preach on "Faithfulness" in his "Fruit of the Spirit" sermon series. Services are live streamed online and recorded for viewing on the church website, flowingforthumc.org.

A freewill collection is taken. Pandemic protocols include limited seating and wearing facial masks when singing hymns.

Rev. Rogers said, "My sermon series focuses on the attitudes, behaviors, and dispositions - called the fruit of the spirit - that the Apostle Paul identifies in his letter to the Galatians. We assess the ways we are deficient in these fruit and how they might grow more mature in us as we live out our faith on the outside.

"Being a Christian isn't just a feeling we have in our hearts or a set of beliefs we affirm in our heads, it is a way of life lived. It's easy to call ourselves followers of Jesus, but it's more difficult to actually grow closer to God where our faith shows on the outside in all that we say and do.

"If we're honest, we can all admit that we have room to grow to look and act more like Christ in our everyday life," Rev. Rogers said.
