End gerrymandering with federal law

Upset with the new district boundaries for the Illinois legislature? The solution is to implement sweeping redistricting reform at the national level.

Running up against a constitutionally-mandated deadline (made difficult by the COVID-19 delays in the 2020 Census count), the Illinois legislature eked out new boundaries just before the session ended with virtually no public input and a heavy partisan skew.

It's easy to be frustrated at the party in power for these maps, but this outcome is not unique to Democrats in Illinois.

It will always be in the best interest of those in power to ensure that they stay in power, so we need to take the redistricting decision-making out of their hands.

The For the People Act (S1 in the U.S. Senate) would prevent the inequities in Illinois' new maps from happening again.

S1 will ban partisan gerrymandering, create uniform rules for drawing districts across the country, require the use of independent commissions and mandate transparency throughout the process.

S1 takes redistricting power away from inherently partisan state legislatures and will get us closer to the truly equitable representation that we deserve.
