Police: Elgin man killed in single-vehicle crash Sunday morning
An Elgin man died Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash after going airborne, hitting a utility pole and being partially ejected from his vehicle on McLean Boulevard in Elgin.
Corwin Rashad McKillion, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Kane County coroner's office said.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. after the Elgin Police Department had received a call for a domestic situation, EPD public information officer Robert Tornabene said. On their way to the call police were informed that McKillion had left the residence, sped away, and was possibly intoxicated, Tornabene said.
McKillion was speeding southbound on McLean and ran a red light at Big Timber Road when he went airborne at the Metra tracks, losing control as the car came down. The vehicle ended up in the northbound lanes before hitting a utility pole.
The cause of death is under investigation by the coroner's office and toxicology results are pending.
