Batavia Farmers Market promises fresh, local produce and unique finds
Memorial Day weekend rang in the unofficial start of summer and - for residents of Batavia and the surrounding areas - that means the return of the beloved Batavia Farmers Market, hosted by Batavia MainStreet. The well-known market's 2021 season kicks off on Saturday, June 5, and will run through Oct. 30.
Shoppers can visit the market on North River Street between Wilson and Spring streets in Batavia 8 a.m. and noon on Saturdays. COVID practices in accordance with current state gathering guidelines will be in place to make the event as safe as possible.
"Batavia MainStreet loves hosting the farmers market. It's a great way to highlight the beauty of our downtown and stimulate our local economy while creating a community-driven social destination," said Beth Walker, executive director of Batavia MainStreet. "It also provides a retail outlet for local producers, fresh local products for consumers, and a gathering place that encourages a sense of community."
The Batavia Farmers Market draws many local vendors who grow, harvest and/or produce at least 75 percent of their market products. Shoppers love perusing the variety of meat, eggs, honey, coffee, sauces, spices and rubs as well as sweet treats provided by area bakers every year. Attendees will also find an array of fresh cut flowers, soap and skin care products to brighten up their homes and beauty routines. Walker said fan-favorite vendors including Sol Garden (produce), Flat Tire Farms (fruit), Fox Flower Farms (fresh cut flowers), Van Laars Fruit Farm (fruit, some veggies, apple cider doughnuts, breads), Stamper Cheese Company, Mighty Greens Farm are all returning to the market this year. Attendees can also have their knives sharpened by The Cutting Edge by the Blacksmith while they shop.
The Batavia Farmers Market is a true community event and isn't possible without the support of local sponsors like Gerald Subaru of North Aurora. The dealership has been a longtime supporter of the market and helped the event survive the pandemic by graciously offering to deliver goods to those unable to shop at Batavia Farmers Market in person due to COVID-19 last year.
"Gerald is an amazing community partner. Their sponsorship helps to defray the cost of running the market as well as MainStreet's other revitalization efforts," said Walker.
In 2021, the market's mission of being a retail outlet for local producers and a gathering place that encourages a sense of community, while providing fresh, local products for consumers has never been more important. As people return to a semblance of normal, Gerald is proud to support an event that puts small businesses and the community first.
"We're thrilled to continue to sponsor the Batavia Farmers Market. From the assortment of local products to the warmth of the community that visits weekly; the Batavia Farmers Market is a wonderful place to visit on Saturday mornings," said Donna Lawler, Vice President of the Gerald Auto Group.
