Catalytic converters stolen in Des Plaines

Catalytic converters were stolen from beneath seven autos on six different blocks in Des Plaines from May 26 to May 31, police said.

The thefts occurred on the 2900 block of Curtis Street, the 800 block of East Oakton Street, the 1000 block of Arnold Court, the 1000 block of Willson Drive, the 2700 block of Scott Street, the 1500 block of Webster Lane. Two of the thefts occurred on Webster.

A saw blade was left at one of the scenes, police said.

Part of a car's exhaust system, catalytic converters are targeted by thieves because they contain valuable metals.
